On A Roll
A trio of hens teeth I’m greatly indebted to a forum member for.
First a 14th Bn (Young Citizens) Royal Irish Rifles. Remarkably scarce in GM and first one I’ve seen on a slider. Second is a real oddity, an all GM Manchester Regiment with tagged construction. It’s from the same die as this BM version I’d always suspected as WW1 manufacture. A factory mistake or something else I wonder? Third the Royal Devon Yeomanry RFA, worn for only about 11 months. |

Thanks very much gents. The Devon RFA is especially pleasing, the last genuine one I could find online was sold via DNW in 2012.
For the member who contacted me close ups as promised. I would be keen to hear any thoughts on the Manchester Regiment conundrum. |

Am I missing something about the Devon Yeomanry badge, is it a variant?
I've seen loads of them. I bought one on ebay in 2015. Edit: learn something everyday, I hadn't realised that there are RFA and Artillery variants of the badge. Mine is RFA, I need to find Artillery examples now.

It is indeed Phil.
The RDY RFA was short lived, there are loads on eBay all fakes from the Martin Marsh catalogue die. There is another more convincing die I’ve seen but Keith Hook tells me it’s a good fake, albeit I admit they would fool me. Notwithstanding my example is same die as the one in KK and Keith’s collection so no nagging doubts. The later badge was the RDYA which is found in GM and bronzed finish. Genuine examples are quite common. Also found with solid and voided centres. |

A nice lot. It looks like I have passed up some solid center RDYA in past as I had thought them bad

The majority of genuine RDYA’s have solid centres CB. They’re made by Gaunt, Firmin and Smith & Wright.
From memory I recall seeing several voided examples with the later Firmin mark and type sliders. |

The Martin Marsh is an obvious one as it has the chunky lion. I am pretty happy with my one. I also need to find a QC, a bronzed KC RDYA and a voided example now

Yes that’s right, the fat awkward lion is the Marsh one, it’s practically the same on both his RDY RFA and RDYA fake efforts.
The metal QC version misspelt ‘YEOMARY’ was quickly withdrawn and is also quite scarce. They do turn up though, happy hunting! Think I forgot to mention above the voided versions are post WW2. |

Two RDYA that I just happened to be photographing and logging and thought it might be helpful to share. This voided later one has a Firmin mark on a short slider. The light in the photograph has not been kind to either, but they are just for my own records. Hope they assist you in finding one. Mark |
