Default 26th Foot Officer Albert Shako plate

A most serendipitous find for me! I have had some spectacular luck this year in finding some very special badges here in the States, which I could never hope to afford from UK sources.
This one takes the cake however. Now the oldest badge that I have. The fire gilt is richer than the photos suggest. The depth of the crown is surprisingly deep, I assume this was typical for the period.
Even the original pins are present reverse. Strangely, the Mullet was white enameled, although chipped and missing most. The Cameronians Museum has a similar plate with the Mullet silvered.

Is this how the fire gilt looks? Great find & lovely to see the wires intact on the back of the crown.

Yes, a little more yellow like yours. As would be said in the UK, I am quite chuffed Thanks all!

That is indeed a beauty. Congratulations. I was especially interested to learn of the white enamel on the mullet, not something I’d ever heard of or seen before. Thank you for posting it.

Congratulations CB!
The Cameronians and associated units are favourites of mine.

Outstanding find and beautiful badge also finding it so far from its home is the icing on the cake.

Kind regards
Hiram
