Default Not in uniform but with badge

Here's another of our photos - just to let you know I haven't fallen asleep!
I hadn't spotted this earlier, was showing my new photo acquisitions to my Mum and she noticed it was a badge rather than a brooch.
I've looked it up and think it's the Durham Light Infantry (Kings Crown).
All I need to do now is find out who she is. (Again the medal cards don't throw up an obvious name!).
I'm assuming the original owner of the badge might no longer be with her!

Hello Sandie, yes, it is indeed the cap badge of the Durham Light Infantry (DLI) being worn as a so-called sweetheart badge. This was very popular in WW1, less so in WW2. Most girls/women would have sported one, either from their 'sweetheart', or a brother, father, son, it was almost viewed as a badge of honour to show that your boy was 'doing his his bit' in the great National effort.

Oh, so it doesn't necessarily mean she was wearing it in mourning then like I assumed. Thanks, Toby, for that info.. it opens up a few more possibilities.

Not usually in mourning no. If worn in mourning I have seen it with either a black ribbon affixed, or piece of black cloth as a (usually gathered/pleated) backing, rather like in 'Victorian' times.
