Yes, it is indeed the badge you sold to Wayne. I took the photo on Sunday at a Wellington badge meeting. The bronze badge also belongs to Wayne.

This one is due to go for a repair. It seems to be an officer's version. What's the consensus = lugs or blades?

Hi John,
I'd go for lugs. Haven't seen such a badge with blades. Cheers, Tinto |

the usual lugs on this badge are simply round brass cross section loops...just use a couple of brass keeper pins used to secure badges and shorten the legs. Copper lugs would be incorrect

I looked at mine yesterday. I have a brass version with blades a bronze with pin back and a bronze with twisted copper loops.

John, your badge originally had a pin back attachment!!!!!
If you choose to repair your badge then I would suggest that it should be kept as original as possible. My thinking is that your badge was not Battalion issued, but instead it was given to supporters and family members of the Maori Battalion by high ranking members of maoridom. Brent |
