Default Installation Auxiliary Police Force

A little know unit of the New Zealand Defence Force is the Installation Auxiliary Police Force (IAPF), which is based in Singapore.

The IAPF was formed in December 1971 under the auspices of the Singapore Police Force Act to police areas occupied by British, Australian and New Zealand forces. Command of the IAPF was assumed by Headquarters New Zealand Force in South East Asia (NZFORSEA) in 1974 and is now administered by the NZ Defence Support Unit (NZDSU). Consisting of warranted Singapore Police officers the IAPF continues today to provide law enforcement and security to New Zealand Defence areas in the Sembawang Naval Base and adjacent family housing area.

During the NZFORSEA years (1974-89) the IAPF wore distinctive Khaki uniforms with Metal IAPF Shoulder titles and the NZFORSEA Kiwi patch worn on both shoulders, Headdress was a peaked cap for Officers and Berets for the Other Ranks with Officer and other rank badges, The example shown here is the Other Ranks Badge. This version from the mid-1980s and still has "ANZUK Force" in the riband under the crown, on later versions, the inscription was changed to "NZ Force"

The IAPF now wear standard Singapore Police uniforms, with the addition of a distinctive IAPF Patch with the NZFORSEA Kiwi patch underneath it. Working Headdress is the Singapore Police Baseball type cap with an IAPF Patch.

The IAPF were and remain unique in the NZ Forces as they are the only component of the NZDF that are permanently armed.

Nice to see, here is one I used to own, had a long vertical pin on the back (for a turban?) and came on a cloth backing as shown.

All the best
