Fattorini Badge Maker
Hi All
Is there a list of regiments that Fattorini made badges for?

I assume you mean cap badges rather than mufti or association etc. badges?
To my knowledge there isn’t a list on here or anywhere that I’m aware of. A list of the latter would be particularly extensive. Re cap badges the only marked ones I’ve ever seen are to several of the WW1-era VTCs. There are of course lots of fake Fattorini marks on these VTCs too. TWGB I’m sure can be of assistance with these. |

Thanks Luke.... I knew it would be a long shot. I have seen a 17/21L sealed pattern card (Cap badge) from 1966 that has Fattorini marked on it..... so I am interested in finding out what they did for this Regiment.

Badge Sealed pattern cards can show names of manufacturers on the back of the card, usually with a date. This indicates that the card was sent/lent to the manufacturer following an expression of interest. However, it does not necessarily mean that any badges were actually produced by that manufacturer. This was perhaps because of complexity or cost issues. Back in the day there were many more manufacturers!
A few examples from cloth and metal badge pattern cards here. Tim

Thanks Tim I am thinking that it might explain some of the less intricate (flat type) Mottoes?

I have 2, 17/21st Lancers pattern cards for Mottoes, ones dated 1993 but does not have Fattorini on it but the other is dated 1966 and on the back is the handwritten name Fattorini and the date 30/3/67. There is a piece of paper attached to the front for resealing in 1994. Please let me know if you want photos. Regards Phil. |

The other is dated 1966 and has only 1 entry on the back and that's for Fattorini and is dated 30/367and has 4384 in brackets but this is crossed out. There is also a slip of paper attached to the front for resealing but it was not reused. Please let me know if you need photos. Regards Phil. |

Thanks Phil, its apparent that the company must have made a motto..... but finding out which one might be a task without their catalogue .... if there is such a thing?

Only 'home' badges' - they are still in business in Birmingham. We might write to them asking what [military] badges they made in the wars.
The only one I have is.... Liverpool Volunteer Guard, June 1915 - September 1916 - The Liver bird with spray in mouth standing left on an eight pointed rayed star, below a tripartite scroll inscribed LIVERPOOL VOLUNTEER GUARD. Die struck in gilding metal, THOMAS FATTORINI / BOLTON, 17 x 1.5 on slider, 40/13. H 35, W 40, Wt 8.44g <3276> There is a similar unit - Liverpool Volunteer Regiment, Sept 1916 - July 1918 The monogramme NVR within an oval strap inscribed LIVERPOOL VOLUNTEER REGIMENT, on an eight pointed rayed star, the top point displaced by an angled Tudor crown. Die struck in gilding metal. Not mine, not seen reverse, no details This may be made by Fattorini too !? Last edited by KLR; 11-06-22 at 09:28 AM. |

I would not bother writing to Fattorini (there are actually two different companies). They do not, or at least say they do not, keep any historical records.
