Newcomer form France/Eastern Europe
Hi everyone, nice to meet you here
My name is Laurent, from France (from la Normandie), but I moved some 20 years ago to Belgrade, Serbia. I've been collecting since I was 13, starting in the Caen area. My primary focus was on the D'Day (how comes???), and I expanded my interests to WW1 later on. As far as British militaria is concerned, I try to stick to Normandy, and when speaking about badges and signs, I'd put both Normandy, and the Salonika campaign 1915-1918. Also, I would love to know more about the British commando operations and support to the Yugoslav Partisans in The Balkan 1941-45, as little is known about it (at least to me). These days, I'm in a kind of badge buying spree (LOL) so I'll probably ask the forum things like "is this particular badge genuine" a number of times. Hope not to be too boring though. So this is my start. Talk to you soon Lests to all |

As far as the Commando Operations you mention are concerned - primarily it will be 2 Special Service / Commando Brigade including Vis Garrison. I think you may also be interested in Force 133 of Special Operations Executive, Raiding Forces Middle East, and Land Forces Adriatic including the light artillery of Raiding Support Regiment (although Force 133 etc were not 'Commando' in the strictest term of the world. In deed leaders of Commando Group wanted the word 'Commando' to be restricted to units under their command). Looking forward to more correspondence ... The Balkans and Yugoslavia are a complex and neglected aspect of WW2. Regards Mike Last edited by Mike B; 02-06-22 at 05:12 PM. |

dear Laurent
If you can get a hold of a copy of eastern approaches by Fitzroy Mcclean you may find the 2nd part of the book of interest as it covers his military life including his time serving with Tito,s partisans. best regards tony |
