Default Date a para beret

Hi All,

recently aquired a para beret. Just wondered if any way to date - no lining or date/markings anywhere. Also, old piece of wooden matchstick box inbetween lugs. Was this a common thing to support the badge in some way ?

Cheers in advance, Mark

I don't remember seeing any para berets without the two vent holes, maybe private purchase, but I doubt this is as old as the badge, assuming it is the WWII type and the badge is correct.

Default beret

Chap I got it off believed it was from the 1960's but I think the badge is original and is older than the beret. Not sure if badge is WW2 or bit later ?

To me,it appears the beret has never had a lining in it.

Not suspect mate, the beret appears like it has been worn. You'll have problems trying to resell it as a WW2 beret. During my time, it was quite common to trim the liner right off to stop irritation, right up to the leather. this looks to be what has happened in this case too. I'd say a hand me down badge on a 5-50 year old beret.

Many thanks. Might keep the badge and offer the beret up for sale on here if it's any good to anyone.

It does not appear to be a military issue beret.
