Default Collar Badges by Tiptaft

Has anyone had any cause to suspect that some General Service collar badges marked Tiptaft may be dodgy?

I have a pair. I have examined them closely, comparing them with my other Tiptaft bages under a good glass and I can't spot any real differences. The marking "Tiptaft B'ham" looks the same. My worry is that these badges have none of the aged patina of the others; they are too good, almost shiny new looking almost as though they had been gilded.

They are nice looking badges though.

Any comments?

I believe they are very rare! Got any pictures of them that you can post?

I shall try but I am not very good at that. My camera is not that great and I usually get them out of focus and shadowy.

If I manage to get the pictures on you will notice that on the reverse side of the left hand gilt badge, on the fold of the banner berween the AUSTRALIAN and COMMONWEALTH there is a raised dot. This does not show on the face of the badge. The badge below it, with the "patina' has a small raised cross in the same place. Once again that does not show on the face of the badge.

Any information you can give me would be appreciated.

I ended up with them from a local country auction because they were in a tin with a couple of nice Anzac "A"s that I wanted. I was very happy with the price that I paid for the tin. I discounted these collar badges in my bidding so if they turn out to be kosher then I have had a bit of a win.

I see that the pictures attached alright but they are only thumbnails. How do you get those nice big pictures that you sent, Mick?

I don't know much about them as I have never seen those collars until viewing your pictures.

As for my pictures, I upload to my photobucket.com account and link them in from there.
