Queens prize 1889 Cloth Badge
An interesting shooting badge dated 1889, Aberdeen Wapinshaw.
The winner is Sergeant David Reid, 1st Lanark (Engineers). Ref: http://www.researchpress.co.uk/index...e-queens-prize |

Hi Will,
Lovely badge thanks for sharing, however this an Aberdeen Wappenshaw Queens Prize not 'The' Queens prize at Wimbledon as it was. The Wappenshaw was a district match to ensure marksmanship at that level, still carried on today by Rifle Clubs. Possible it was the same man given his Scottish links but it could be a different guy. Thanks for pointing that out Mark, in my haste I completely missed the difference being Wimbledon.
I had a similar badge years ago glued in the corner of a framed photo that had soldiers wearing the badge. Should have kept it. |

Will, still a lovely thing, it should also be possible to find out the owner, I would start with the Scottish Rifle Association & the National Rifle Association (who have an Archivist). At that time Shooting results were published in the Newspapers, so still worth a look. Regards Mark
