Default INFORMATION AND CONFIRMATION

Hello. Could any member give me some information on this Badge?. Although as i stated most of my Badges were bought in the 70s from a dealer (HANKIN), well this Badge was not, it must have been purchaced from an antique shop in the 70s as the price was on the back "£5.00".
Thank you.
Peter.

Peter,

Its a Royal Munster Fusiliers, other ranks glengarry badge pre- 1898.

However its patina and colouring are indicative of a typical attempt to make a modern badge look older than it is.

I will others chip in to confirm or deny this though.

regards

I don't have my RDF/RMF GG's any more, but, I don't like the shallow ball shape. The only GG's I now have are to the NF (5th Foot) and InnisFus and the shape of the ball is not lovely and round and as shallow as yours. As a collector from the 70's - especially Irish related regiments, I would have expected to pay 20-25 pounds for a genuine one of these at that time, a fiver sounds too cheap.
Ignoring the price, the shallow dish shape of the ball would put me off.
I believe that the fakers of these types of GG's found it very easy to get the shallow round shape which is why a lot of these restrikes all seem to have the same smooth outside edge.
I would venture a guess that its more "modern".
Only my opinion of course.
David

Agree with above comments. Here is a genuine example. Note the band between the flames and grenade. The grenade is domed-shaped and the rear has good definition. Hope this helps.
