From a Friend:......
As for the badge in this email, it's a British chaplain cap badge worn between about 1910 and 1931. Canadian, Australian and New Zealand chaplains also wore the same pattern for differing periods with the Aussies wearing it the longest - up to the end of WW2. The badge came in several slightly different variations mostly due to different manufacturers. Likewise the fasteners were different - some were lugged, others were fold over tangs like this one. The finish may be somewhat pebbled or pickled like this one or totally smooth. They also came in different metals - gold or gilt, silver, copper, brass. The last three types were usually blackened but chaplains being somewhat individualistic, would often polish off the blackening to bring out the metal underneath. This badge, however, is definitely British made and worn. |

Chaplain collectables
Hi there folks, since there is already a topic on the Chaplains I thought I woudl start to add a few badges here from my collection. I have only been collecting for about 18 months but am getting more and more interested in the R.A.Ch.D and other chaplaincy's.
First is a couple of the cap badges for the RAChD post 1930.

Chaplain collectables 2
Next up is a chaplains beret badge from the late 1950s I managed to pick up at auction, and a look at the embroidered scarf badges on the scarf of RAChD Chaplain 4th Class Revd J.E.C. Dakin M.A. who was given an emergency commission in 1942 and attached to the Border Regiment, sent out to India and Burma, he served until 1946.
Regards

I note the photos in the first post have been deleted, is there a way of getting back maybe on the forum directly so we can have the images for future reference???

Hi All,
I've just picked up these collar badges this morning, can anyone tell me if there's any significance in the different shapes or is it just down to the manufacturer? Thanks a lot, Michael |

Canadian or British Bullion Badge
Hello all
For some reason when I tried to send a private message to a member, I couldn't upload an image. Long and short of it all QSAMIKE this was the image that was to be sent to you. Question to everyone. I purchased this badge from someone who is well known and respected in Ontario Canada. and likely every where else as a Canadian Chaplain badge. Looking for opinions, and information. When did the Canadians replace the wreath of oak-leaves and laurels with maple leafs? Roy Thompson's book shows oak-leaves up until 1973 Thank you in advance Chris

The CF Chaplain badge was changed to the maple leaf wreath sometime in the mid-late 70's.
There is another possibility as to the purpose of this embroidered badge. The Chaplain's scarves had a bullion wire badge on both sides, and this may be the badge sewn on the scarf.

Hello Bill
I hadn't thought about the stole that chaplains wear. It is 7cm x 5 cm if I recall. Could it be for a forge cap.
