This is interesting - now that he has posted some more pictures, my opinion has changed. I think the patch could be OK (but at GBP250 well over priced - they are probably only worth AUD$150-200 tops) - the back looks like an original Japanese made one with the white cloth backing. A few other collectors on my Aussie badge forum had reservations about the authenticity of the group and given the original picture I thought the same.

Hard to say about the hat badge given the pictures - they are scarce having only been worn in 1971 and 1972 and legitimate ones have serrated markings on the side of the badge. There are also plenty of reproductions of both around.

Ideally, I would want to have a feel of the patch before buying - sadly most of the Vietnam War patches have been reproduced.

Hi Mick,

Have just compared the patch to my 3 genuine examples and I think your first hunch was correct. The reverse of the scroll looks too wide.
I will post pics when I get the chance.
I believe the cap badge is a repro. I have one.

Cheers
Del.

PS - Can I have a link to your forum, thanks.

I'm in Perth.

Thanks Del - sadly there are too many fake AATTV items these days.

My thoughts are that the patch doesn't look quite right. The Japanese made ones, which this is meant to be, had thicker letters for the naming than the one on ebay. I have posted some pictures of Japanese made AATTV patches that were in my collection when I used to collect them. The brass badge is definitely a fake and are extremely rare.

This patch came in an enclosed bag which I presume was the way they were issued.

I have seen a number of these badges sell here in Oz and none were under $400. I sold mine for $400 plus each when I sold them.

Yup, I'd be happy with that.
Note the quality, compared to the fakes.
