Default WWI Riding Instructor's Badge?

A recently bought qualification badge which resembles the Riding Instructor's / Horse Breaker's badge of WWI. However, the spur is not displayed on an angle but shown from above and with voids where the leather straps would be fitted. It's a very good quality badge with the usual three lugs and backing plate. Any information or ideas about this variant would be very much appreciated. Cheers Aidan.

Hi Aidan

Just a suggestion, perhaps British South Africa Police?

Here are British Army equitation instructors badges in cloth and metals in two designs. The gilding metal design as in the opening post is now issued in gold anodised.

Its one of the two commonly found versions of the badge. British.

Hi all,
Here are a couple of mine for comparison. Not sure when/where larger version was worn.
Cheers, John
