Canterbury Mounted Rifles (CYC) badge
Have just received this very nice CYC Cap badge. Unlike most CYC badges I have seen it is not brass but some sort of silver type material. Hopefully, this forum can provide some info on it.

Bands wore white metal badges.
This photo of the CYC band is dated April 1937. Barry |

I have a set of solid backed J R Gaunt made badges. My hat badge matches yours exactly.Mine are silver plated with silvered lugs. There may be plated (nickel or chrome)band badges, but my set I would stake a left testicle on, would be full dress officer issue (same as yours), akin to gilt (or silver and gilt) badges worn by other Mounted regiments (I have 1st,3rd, 5th,6th,8th,11th Mtd Rifles). The band may have nickel plated some brass badges? I cannot imagine the band stumping up for gaunt silver plated sets of badges?? but who knows. These quality Gaunt made badges to Mtd rifles regiments are rarely seen.
Your one appears re-lugged, my hat and collar badges all have silver plated lugs. they are a lovely frosted silver finish as observed on these Gaunt Officer's badges of other units. they are like rocking horse poo to find. took me 40 years to complete a set of these. CYC Silver Officer badges (J R Gaunt)
Images attached of complete set of these Officer badges, circa WW1. Despite my average pics, the lugs are all silver plated same as badges themselves.
