Default 8th Southland Regiment

I have assorted badge sets and trying to understand the time frame when they would have been worn

The set with gaunt plaques believe are early WW1 period

The gilt and red enamel set came from Laurie and he told the owner wore them in the inter war period

Are the die cast set also inter war or officer service dress from WW1

The last set I believe are the last type - WW2 territorial maybe

Question: any photo evidence out there to confirm WW1 officer wear badges?

Question: the spears across the front - when and where?

A nice selection Wayne . Chromed badges were used by the Southland Boys High School band up till the 1950's . There is a cap version with the warrior holding a silver Taiaha as well . The did see Laurie's enameled badges that he had , and he said ''make me an offer'' but in true Laurie style wanted the earth for them . He also told me that they belonged to the Lieutenant Colonel of the 8th company , possibly interwar .

Here is my great uncle George /Geordie Davidson 27471 wearing the spear/taiaha across the body type collar badges .

Yes, have been known to have a brain fade with a couple of purchases but don’t expect to see a gilt and enamel set again. Have previously had 2 cap badges for gilt and enamel and tending to believe they were inter war period.

I seem to remember see Travis VC with same badges as your great uncle - were they the norm half way through the war as gaunt stocks exhausted?

This will be the one of Richard Travis VC , D.C.M , M.M that you are talking of .Not sure when they come about but the spear across the body types have no makers marks that I have seen . They are a lot rarer than the standard types . The enamel types are very rare indeed . I am slightly envious !!
