It certainly is unlike to be 1964 because the boat was damaged and was towed to Birkenhead for repairs.

I think the photo may be bogus but the unofficial badge may well be 1968-9. The TA Bns were disbanded in 1967 and the Staffordshire TA reduced to a cadre (company strength?). We know that the Staffordshires TA (note neither North or South) wanted to use the plain knot. This was rejected but it's quite possible they wore them until they were incorporated in the Mercian Volunteers. An interesting thread all the same.

The plain knot silver anodised collar was sealed in 1964. But they arent wearing them in the image.

Indeed it looks like the NStaffs badge to me. Does not match either.

5/6 STAFFORDS
Concerning the photo of 5/6 STAFFORDS and their annual camp on the Isle of Man. I have commented in previous threads that I suspect the photo has been ‘doctored’. However, there seem to be 5 or 6 Forum members who have examples of the Stafford Knot badge in plated zinc type metal. Mine came amongst a large job lot and cost less than £2.00. They have sold for hundreds!

May I ask what this doctored photo is and how or why people think it might have been done? Sounds really intriguing.

Simply out the photo purports to be the 5/6 Staffs badge in use but:
Up to 1967 the NStaffs or SStaffs cap badges were worn by the TA But the BD and NStaffs collars in the photo suggest pre 1967 The lone knot badge was asked for in 1968 or 69 and was knocked back. If the badge is right in the photo it must be 1969/70 but by then there was no single battalion summer camp in IOM. In 1968 the TA was subject to huge cuts and TAVR III was disbanded. https://hansard.parliament.uk/Lords/...eTrainingCamps I think it's a NStaffs TA photo from the early 1960s that's been fiddled with. If you expand the image the Stafford Knot cap badges appear (to me) to be in an oblong shape and may have been photoshopped in. Presumably done to encourage sales of the badge?

At £200 a go it's quite a motivation.

A strange and not insignificant number of discrepancies with the photo then. Fascinating. Thank you both for explaining.

I saw one yesterday,in a collection that used to belong to an ex RSM of the Staffords. He stated that they were worn for a short period of time.
