Scottish lion on MkII helmet
Hi,
I have this 1942 dated MkII helmet with what looks like a Scottish lion painted insignia, on top of the lion two letters : "N.O." What connection may it be ? What do the letters "N.O." stand for ? Regards Normandie18 20220320_134035.jpg 20220320_134316.jpg 20220320_134320.jpg |

"NO" - joke insignia referring to the referendum on Scottish independence?

It looks more like the Dutch Republic Lion. Maybe the 'N' stands for Netherlands?

Military speaking the Netherland lion carries a sword and arrows, that why I wonder about his Scottish origins... Normandie18 |

3 new possibilities for the "N.O." :
- N.O. : Navigating Officer - N.O. : Normal Operating - N.O. : Norway (in this case the "Norwegian Mountain Infantry Brigade" within the Scottish Command during WW2) Still searching Normandie18 |
