Default Help with Regiment

Hello,

I’m looking for some help in identifying what regiment this chap belongs to and the period etc

Any help will be gratefully recieved, as this is way outside of my knowledge sphere.

9th lancers. The pill box hat went out of use c,1900 but some regiment hung onto them for a few years but very probably the decade leading up to the turn of the century.

According to Uniformology, the 9th did not wear collar badges until sometime between 1903 and 1908.

Well if that is true it does line up with the 9th lancers being on of the cavalry regiments who avoided wearing the NP (Brodrick) cap: they had a sealed pattern one in scarlet but it seems probable that they avoided it until 1906 - if they wore it at all.
