The beret doesn't look right to me, I'm not aware of any wartime pattern having the pocket for a badge slide
PS I wouldn't describe myself as an expert, I can only tell you what I have seen. If I've not seen something it doesn't mean it doesnt exist!

Agreed, I automatically discount any beret with a slider tab as post war....

And why would a Para Regt officer have standard infantry scarlet backings to his badges of rank? And no shoulder titles?

According to the ParaData site, which illustrates many examples, there are 1959 patterns and 1972 patterns of Denison smock and both are similar in colour and cut.
Of course the 59 pattern was presumably made and year stamped for most years (including 1968) between 1959 and 1972! Examples sell for £200 + on ebay! Tim

My apologies it's only a Kangol, sorry :/ Have attached photo's anyways. Owned by Captain who was MID'd europe 1944. I'll have to check his name later
