The SAS peaked cap saga continues.......

The SAS cap does NOT belong to Robert Miles, it belongs to me. And I still have it. I sent him the pictures many years ago and he used the pictures in Chute and Dagger without consulting me. I still have the cap and it was purchased from Bosleys many years ago. I contacted Herbert Johnson some many years later and they did not keep a record of how many hats were made - shame really.

I agree with the comments written about purchasing from other tailors, it was up to the individual to find the best hat with the allowance he got! One could argue - having actually served - that it becomes SAS when it has been on Parade and accepted as such.

Just as an aside, the AAC (1957 version) went through a very similar saga and for very similar reasons. The caps concerned still exist and there are some images of them being worn, although very few. They were prototypes and as far as I know never 'formally' acccepted, despite that they were worn a few times on public occasions, including a court martial!

What puzzles me is why a Regiment or Corps which authorized headdress is the beret would even want to wear a No1 Dress Cap at all (SAS, Para, AAC, Army Commando)
When 'Dress Regulations for Officers' & 'Materials Regulations for the Army' (OR'S) state that the beret is worn in all forms of dress including No1 Dress.

So officers of these formations would not seek to purchase such a cap unless they could avoid it.

As already stated, Anything is possible re uniform in the British Army, and it is wrong to be to exact without supporting evidence (provenance) for guidance and not treated as matter of fact -0 if you do not like an item, do not buy it, but also do not build as case on it based on hearsay...

As to why they were worn at the coronation is another matter.

Please add the Intelligence Corps to your list of "beret only" corps and regiments. It is alleged to have become an all beret corps as a compensation for having, for the second time, failed in its bid to have the Royal prefix bestowed by the Sovereign.

Can't read the maker ad I'm using a mobile, but if Herbert Johnson, just goes to show that changing the insignia makes this an SAS cap just as much as others according to the logic of some on here. The correct pattern, correct maker, and (with SAS insignia) arguably an SAS cap.
