The date of the helmet may be 1938 but was it actually issued to Lt. DJ Sheridan in 1938 ?

Do you have details of his service record ?

Thanks so much Mike, that does fill in some gaps, although the flash is still a mystery as it’s not a standard REME flash.
I thought I would attach the under rim showing his name etc. out of interest!

Who knows? Thought it doesn’t look like it on inspection of the helmet! Will continue my search however.
