If it was on the out-side of the vehicle and it injured a pedestrian in the event of a collision, you could be sued. Hence why the Mercedes badges are now spring loaded.

suppose ya could lay it on the bonnet and secure it somehow lol . wouldn't look very good on a ford fiesta though i don't think

I know Wiltshire roads can be a bit hairy with all those tractors but in the rest of the country if you hit a pedestrian then you will be sued.

I think you mean that you can be sued for additional damages caused by the badge over an above what you might be sued for just for running someone over.
