Default New Record Price for CEF Badge!!

Looks like the record price for a CEF badge set at Marway's recent auction has already been broken! At the Marway auction a Boyles Yukon Territory large MG cap badge sold for $5,300 hammer price. At Bosley's auction yesterday a smaller version of this badge with tangs sold for 4,620 GBP hammer price (about $7,300 Canadian) This one looked near mint and the tangs prove it was a cap badge, as opposed to the ones with lugs that could have been used as caps or collars. Blew my bid out by an order of magnitude!!

Ian,

Got any pics of the badge from the Bosley's auction?

******** took the Boyles Cap at Marways auction!

FYI No Quarter was asked or given in this quest!

Cheers
Rob

Wow, what a price. I guess that's the "thing" about records, they can always be broken!

At least we can say we held it for almost a week!

Paul ****** has confirmed with me that this badge is a early version of the collar which did in fact have tangs! Which coincided with this cap badge.

Hello Ian,

I have these pictures from you know who! The big bear guy!

The one on the left is a collar with tangs which sold for $4,620.oo GBP and the one on the right is the cap badge which sold at Marway's for $5,300.00.

As stated before the one on the left is a collar with tangs which was the earlier variety the later one came with lugs which is posted on another thread.

I hope this will help clarify what just recently happened!

Cheers
Rob

Ian, Rob,

With insignia this expensive how could you Canadians ever afford to field this unit?

Hi Rob,

Clear as mud! Two bidders were willing to pay over $7,000 for a collar badge?! Maybe they thought the auction was in pesos? What exactly happened??

Cheers, Ian.

The question on my lips is how long before we start seeing the good qualty reproductions of this badge?

I need not remind members of what happened in regards to D Troop commando.

Hello,

I was told by Paul last night through an authority on the Yukon units that both officers and NCO's wore the cap badge as in the the above picture.

A small unit maybe approx 100 personel including HQ staff 4 batteries of MG's etc.

It is truly a RARE and expensive badge!
