Default Dross Current UKSF patches on Ebay

Guys and girls. Not been active on here lately for personal reasons.
However currently on Ebay theres a seller listing various DROSS as SAS and SBS original patches.
Steer away and save your pounds.
I'm passionate about our guys and girls serving.
I just sent the following to the seller
"Hi. The SF patches you're peddling are fake. Not original. I should know as I designed 1 of them! Its unfair that you place in the public domain where hostile agencies have access to such info. Cant imagine people doing the same in 1941 to Erwin Rommel to give him the tactical edge. Sleep easy knowing our guys are risking their lives for us."
Not sure if I'll hear back.
Regards

Jon
Thanks for taking this matter up - tactfully put - and hoping the seller does the decent thing and you also hear from them.
All the best
Mike

To the manufacturer / seller of the current crop of bogus, fake and otherwise spurious UKSF sqn patches on ebay…..
These patches are clearly facsimiles of little-known but genuine insignia made specifically for these end users, inaccurate in a number of small details which will obviously not be expounded.
as the designer/maker of the original patches it is not done so for monetary gain based on many years of mutual respect and trust, on the understanding that the designs are sensitive and are to remain undisclosed, an undertaking that I take it very seriously for obvious reasons.
However the infringement of copyright issue is really not the concern here.
You should understand that the individuals who wear the genuine patches on which these copies have been based are daily engaged in a long term conflict with the most insidious adversary this country has ever had to deal with, both on the streets of the the UK and around the globe. This enemy is not stupid and will use every resource to further their ambitions including gathering intelligence from social media and certain internet auction sites.
The people that wear these designs do not want them copied and shared with the wider World, they do not wish to be identified, by doing so make no mistake you are putting them and their families in harms way for the sake of a few hundred pounds.
You are making a clear choice here, taking a side and making life harder for the very people you purport to admire and support… if you are good with that then by all means continue making more copies and sell them at your convenience.

Default Request from another collector.

Nice work Ben.
Was asked to place this here on behalf of a dear friend with personal grievances regarding this matter.
"UKSF Fakes

An open message to the SF collecting community.

Dear friends while this is aimed mainly at the commercial end of the hobby we all have a collective responsibility to adhere to certain ethics, there are no rules but there are principles.

Anyone that is interested in the role of our Special Forces, enough to collect and trade in associated items, should be aware of the inherent sensitivity surrounding the hobby. Recently there have been copies of current UKSF insignia for sale on internet auction sites, specifically unofficial squadron patches.

The originals of these designs are rightly coveted by serving individuals who do not want them disclosed, disseminated and generally put out there for all to see. Genuine examples are consequently rarely if ever seen on the collector market.

Anyone making and selling facsimiles for profit is not only engaging in copyright infringement but more significantly entering the area of personal/unit security.

The few individuals that are entitled to wear these badges do so while facing, on a daily basis, the most insidious adversary this country has possibly ever confronted, this enemy isn’t stupid, they are known to gather intelligence from social media forums and internet auction sites with a view to furthering their agenda. Anything, however seemingly insignificant, that will assist in identifying members of UKSF will be of use to them.

By circulating these designs in public the seller is making a choice, taking a side and in a very real way putting the lives of those people that he purports to admire and support along with their families at possible risk.

It is easy to subscribe to the argument that this is just a hobby however it’s a hobby that we have to understand takes place in a World where these things have a wider significance and consequence.

The obvious retort ‘if these badges are so sensitive…why do they make them and who has leaked them to the outside World ?’ is a conversation that is currently being had, however the fact is that the designs are now in the public domain…we in the collecting community have a role in ensuring the damage is kept to a minimum.

No forum member would knowingly publish a photograph of a serving member of UKSF, so the sharing of these seemingly insignificant badges should be regarded in the same light."

Happy collecting
Jon

That's the same problem everywhere. E.g. Polish GROM.
The patches are cool but because of their rarity the dealers and fakers don't care of security of the operators.
Cheers.

Well done Jon, I support the cause. It’s a shame someone is getting away with this for a fast buck, a true undesirable!
Keep up the good work.
