Hes being trained by an American on the US M18 recoiless anti tank rifle - so probs post war or Korean era? Not sure what the US guys arm badge is without research

And the captain wants to see how "recoiless" is achieved?

I think I can see a Kings Crown WO2 rank badge on the CSM looking at it.

A couple of things come to mind as I look at the picture.
First, the US guy has the 7th Division patch on his right shoulder which indicates that was his previous duty unit. The current unit is worn on the left shoulder only. Re the fellow looking through the gun sight, I would be less worried about him than the captain who is immediately behind the gun!!! A recoilless rifle is like a big bazooka on a mount, the energy of firing he weapon has to go somewhere and guess where and thus why it's recoilless!!! Terry |

He is wearing the full-size cap badge rather than the smaller post-1950 beret badge so that should help date the photo roughly.
