Default Allied Control Authority Austria badge/brooch

This arrived today: enamelled badge or brooch for the Allied Control Authority Austria, measuring 21.9 x 25mm, and manufactured by S.A. Picciani e Barlacchi Firenze (Florence, Italy).

Can anyone help with answers to the following:

1. Was this generally worn by ACA staff, or just specific nationalities or departments?

2. Whereabouts on the uniform was it worn?

As always any information will be gratefully received.

Usual caveat that it will be offered for exchange or sale in due course once my curiosity is satisfied.

Thanks for looking

Graham

Hello Graham,

Oddly, I was going to post the attached to see if the badge could be identified. Although obviously not the same as yours it looks similar(ish) and the photo was taken in Austria during February 1946.

Don't know why one image has turned 90°

Steve

Hi Steve

Thank you for your reply and the photos, very interesting. To my (admittedly not brilliant) eyes it looks like there are numbers top right quarter, and something over the cross upright (possibly a map outline), but I might just be seeing patterns where none exist. Hopefully someone will chip in with more info or a positive ID.

All the best

Graham

Evening Graham,

Many thanks for your comments, unfortunately, I can't get a better image. Where you see numbers, I saw letters but now I'm undecided, however I thought there could be a map outline.

Nice looking badge you have there.

All best

S
