The 2nd NSW Infantry about 1898 wore a large Maltese cross badge with a Guelphic crown (both in brass and WM) but it is difficult to see the design from the photo. The uniform and collar insignia using buttons are correct for NSW Infantry.

I found these two definite 2nd NSW Inf images in my files. It is likely, but not absolutely certain, that the unknown warrior is wearing the same.

Default Cross

Hi Kingsley,

I believe you have nailed it, even with the extremely poor outline I've done on the badge, I see a cross.

Hopefully someone with far superior skill can have a go at it.

Cheers,

Invest
