Default S.A.P.G.A. shoulder title

Shoulder title: S.A.P.G.A. / Z.A.P.V.A. I haven't a clue about the meaning of the initials, something to do with the Police? thank you in advance for your help!

Owen has Z type badges listed between 1912 and 1923 but you may need to check unit information.

www.samilitaryhistory.org would be a good starting point and I think that they are carrying an article on artillery.

Cheers

You also get the same title with SAPVA. This was the later title.

Hi

Just joined the forum, and while going through existing posts I came across this one.

SAPGA = SA Permanent Garrison Artillery
ZAPVA = ZA Permanente Vesting Artillerie - changed to SA Permanente Vesting Artillerie (SAPVA) in the mid-1920s

The unit was formed in December 1921, to take over the Cape Peninsula defences from the Royal Garrison Artillery, and it was incorporated into the SA Artillery in 1934, so it had a fairly short lifespan.
