18th Infantry Division
I have often seen this formation, the 18th Infantry Division described in auction lists as having been formed from units from Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk and Cambridgeshire.
Could anyone tell me which units were specifically from Essex? Rob |

18th Infantry Division consisted of:
53rd Infantry Brigade 5, 6, 7 Norfolk, 2 Cambridgshire 54th Infantry Brigade 4 Norfolk, 4, 5 Suffolk 55th Infantry Brigade 5 Bedfordshire & Hertfordshire, 1, 2 Cambridgeshire, 1/5 Foresters So, no Essex infantry battalions, perhaps some divisional or brigade gunners were former Essex TA? The Great War 18th Division had an Essex battalion as well as an East Surrey and a West Surrey one. They also had a Royal Sussex and a Royal Berkshire battalion

18th Infantry Division
Sorry, I should have said WWII.
Yes, no doubt there were men from Essex in the ranks of the 18th Division in WWII, but not any specific Essex Regt to my knowledge. Rob |
