Kings Liverpool Regiment
Can any forum member confirm the likelihood of an officer commissioned Captain on 2 September 1914 into the 2nd City Battalion King’s Liverpool Regiment as having received one of the silver hallmarked cap badges given by Lord Derby.
Many thanks in advance for any advice offered. Kind regards, Malcolm. |

There is a document at the IWM by capt XYZ (I have the name somewhere) about the Lpl Pals badge. From this I gather that officers did not get a HMS badge (earliest was the Chester, the next ones were HM London).
Officer's wore a bronze OSD cap and collar badges. Incidentally there were three versions of the OR cap badges; At the time the silver ones were presented in 1914 - they were also given a solid die cast GM with NS loops. These were made by Elkingtons and were unauthorised by the WO but as they were given HM the King authorised it!. Other Ranks The 2nd (1st official issue) given a Pattern number Patt 8520/1915, in the summer of 1915 - stamped with two NS badges. Maker unknown. Other Ranks, 3rd (2nd official issue) WO Patt 9483/1917 Die struck in GM– bronzed, very little wear. B P & CO LD. B’HAM on slider (Bodmill Parker Company) The important thing was that the WO ordained a dark brown patina (like eg Household Cav and Yeo badges) for all these Pattern / dies. So if you see a shiny GM one - it has just lost it's patina |
