6th Inniskilling Dragoons Arm Badge?
Hi revisiting this to see if anyone has uncovered proof of it's been worn? All brass lugged with correct number of bricks to parapet, below Tower window, posting a good slidered version also for comparison.
Before I remove the last badge from where it ought not to have been - the tray of good badges, the all w/m with wonky tower (in the photo you see so much more detail! - a bad badge?) But wish this confirmed, only 10 bricks and brickwork is morevlike engraved! The lugs make it look better! Many thanks Billy |

6th Inniskilling Arm Badges
Hi Billy
As stated by Seaman and by Linaker & Dine cap and collar badges were worn as arm badges by NCO's at the end of WW1 due to shortages. However after 20 years of research into this great regiment I have not found any photographic evidence that white metal or silver cap size badges were used as arm badges. Good quality white metal cap sized badges do exist but no one has been able to say with certainty who made them or why. Were they ever worn in the regiment ? Page 72 of Linaker & Dine speculates that these white metal badges were worn as arm badges but does not provide any definitive proof. There does not appear to be any proof that a 1916 brass version was ever worn either. However if you look at the attachment which is part of my collection you will see a white metal and a brass version which I have included because they are both very good quality badges and have the correct number of bricks in the top of the central turret. Yes one of the turrets on the brass version is bent 😀 Sorry if this is not much help. Regards Bob |

Hi Bob what a great collection, the all white-metal badge I think is wrong by its appearance alone, the all brass and original Bi-metal differ with number of bricks on the Tower, but match on the Castle keep at 11, Your Brass badge is this on loops? I have considered the w/m badges to spurious? I take it this isn't so then? A lovely collection will have to run through my own with you later, many thanks Billy

My brass badge has a slider. As regards the white metal badges I have w/m examples to the 4th Dragoons, 5th Lancers and SIH. I have not seen one to the Kings Royal Irish Hussars. Someone described them as "Walking out badges" which I assume is a badge worn when outside barracks and off duty but still in uniform. I suppose this is possible but I have not been able to confirm this. So the question remains as to whether the w/m badges are issue items or one of the many collectors pieces made with original dies after the war. Bob |

Hi Billy,
The third badge you show all WM on loops is indeed fake. I was shown a similar one recently and whilst the loops looked quite nice and it wasn’t the ‘common’ fake it is indeed a repro. I found a BM badge from the same die also on loops without braze holes. I’ll try find pics tomorrow I have them saved somewhere on an email. Bob - would it be possible to post pictures your WM 4DG, 5L and SIH please? |

Thanks for confirming 3rd badge a totally different type from others! Door shape for instance wonky Tower? (Made like this to replicate age?) But loops to rear look really convincing! Will put onto my board of shame! Cheers billy

6th Inniskilling arm badges
Hi Alan
Yes both arm badges are Hallmarked B&P 1888. One is to RSM Bramley and the other (missing flag) to Sgt Byrne. Both are included in a long running Forum post on the 1887 Inniskilling NCO Arm Badge. Regards Bob |

Mine is similar to your badge on the right with the strengthening pins. However I'm never happy with badges which have strengthening pins. I think that an Edwardian regimental quartermaster would return a box of these type of badges as substandard!! I prefer your badge on the left which is a stronger construction. The lances are always a weakness and liable to break. Hopefully at some stage a researcher will establish whether these w/m badges were worn or not. Bob |

That's a very nice display!! I tried to do something similar a few years back, showing the RDG lineage from a more "Irish " perspective. Hope you like it. Bob |
