It was sealed as collar badge but the same design was worn as cap and produced with a sldier.

K&K Vol 2 show the small cartwheel as a solid badge. K&K 774.

The voided version is the 14/20th version K&K 775.

The eagle was officially sealed in 1932 but the regtl history states that they adopted the eagle some 5 years earlier so they cannot have been worn for that long.

Alan
I'm not quite sure what point/points you are trying to put across here, I've read your post a dozen times and I'm still struggling, perhaps you could clarify please.

I can only refer you to my posts that I have made already in this thread with regards to the badges you mention, but I would also add an observation with regards to K&K that it appears to me that they have completely overlooked the existence of the 1919 14H voided pattern in their volumes?

Regards
Rob

My point is that K&K show only the small solid badge in my Vol2.

They also show what is probably a mis-identified collar for the 14/20 Hussars who were in fact wearing the eagle badge post 1926.

So the running order is

Oval Victorian badge with eagle up to 1915. Regtl photos in India pre WW1 suggest that the badge actually used was a sole eagle with no oval.
Replaced by the large cartwheel in 1915. The photo attached appears to be a 14th Hussars tpr. Its between 1917-19 as the 1914/15 star ribbon is also in the larger group but not Squeak and Wilfred.

Replaced by the small cartwheel (collar used at first?) c1919 in both voided and unvoided?
The 14/20 retain both 14H and 20H Sqns post 1922.
The old badges are replaced post 1926 to a badge common to the whole regt. The regt prefers the eagle and the eagle badge is officially sealed in 1931.

Alan

Thank you for the clarification of your views etc. and for posting the very interesting image, which I agree, appears to be of 14H trooper, showing the large 'cartwheel' in wear with matching collars.

Default Lt.Col. H.E. Joicey DSO JP

Hello again Jo

I can now put a some approx. date to image.

Hugh Joicey was gazetted to the 14H in 1900. He serve with the regiment during the Boer War. He was adjutant of the regiment from 1905 to 1908, being promoted Captain in 1906. He left the regiment in 1910, only to returned in 1919 as Lt.Col to become acting CO for just under a year.

How long the 14H officers wore XIV as Collar Dogs on their SD we can only guess, but I would suggest it could be for most of the Edwardian/pre WWI period, as they do not appear to be wearing them in Mhow 1914.

A photo from 1923 Army of Occupation in Germany- no collars are in use but the cap badge is clearly of small size and not the cartwheel. The regt was not formally titles the 14th/20th until 1936 so was likely to have the old 14th
(or 20th) regtl badges worn at Sqn level.

I have no connection to this seller
https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/m.html?it...ssars&_sacat=0

but he has several photos of the small badge in use and very interesting a picture of the 13th Hussars 'Z' type bagde in use. Well worth a look.

https://horsepowermuseum.co.uk/timel...s-were-formed/

The regimental museum also states that A Sqn continued to wear the 20th Hussars badge in the 1920s.

I have long suspected that the regimentally procured 1926 eagle is the rare one with the FR on the chest. The FR was previously used on the regimental badges worn in Victorian times and subsequently reappeared with the KRH.
