Default Royal Horse Guards George 5th Belt

Hi all, I’ve been gifted my grandfathers RHG cloth belt by my dad, and I’m looking to properly store is so that it doesn’t get damaged in any way. If it survived Cyprus with him- where he was the head of the Governor’s bodyguard (had to get the brag in, sorry)- then it should be able to survive me!!!

All help appreciated, as well as anybody pointing out I’ve got the piece of kit wrong.

Cheers,

Adam

Certainly not worn prior to 1936 and therefore not within the reign of George V.

It is a Stable Belt and a similar type is still worn today by The Blues and Royals.

Hi Frank and Tim, my apologies, managed to mess up which George it was. Silly me. Thank you both for your help on the matter. Do either of you have any idea on storing it?

G'day Adam

Give the belt a light brushing to remove any dirt etc, then wrap it in acid free, archive quality tissue paper, then store in an archive quality, acid free carton.

You should be able to find a supplier of archive quality acid free materials by doing a Google search.

Hope that this helps.

Regards

Phil.
