Unknown etc.
Forgive me for being pedantic, but surely the title scrolls help here ! The only points up for dispute are (1) period and (2) authenticity. The units are self-explanatory. I will leave (1) and (2) to our Canadian cousins to expand upon. Regards. David

Sorry David
Should have been more specific, and yes, the period and authenticity are what I was after. |

Hi Matelot, your first badge is for the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry (also known as the Patricia's or the Princess Pat), worn from early 30's to the Korean war period when they switched to a QC bi-metal voided center. This model(?) should be in bronze but, I have a photograph of a member of the unit with that badge (poss. just post war).
For the second one, it's the Queen's Own Rifles of Canada. This one looks like a good 2ndWW pattern. Either Bill A or Paulbear would be able to give you more detailed informations on those two.By the way, great photos...... Regards Jo |

The PPCLI is a cast copy of the WW2 era badge. The QOR badge looks okay, and is also WW2 era.

The PPCLI is a pot metal casting total fake and the QOR is questionable due to the poor highlights otherwise a poor striking of a late WW11 ERA BADGE

As already stated, the PPCLI is a very poor fake. I have to wonder what the point is at producing a fake of a very common badge? Certainly there can not be money to be made in that one.
As for the QOR, I'm sort of on the fence with it. I have to say the details are not as sharp as I would expect to see. Possibly as stated a poorer quality striking of an original badge but I'm not 100% convinced of that. Again I have to wonder why the bother to reproduce this common badge. If it is in fact a fake, and just a poor striking.

For whatever reason, the QOR cap badge striking was of poor quality for the WW2 era badge. I have had this same striking of badge several times. One was with the backing found on QOR berets late in WW2. The reverse, as shown, lacks the detail of many struck badges, but is consistent with QOR badges of that era.

Thanks for the reply Bill. Another leason learned here on my part. I guess I am veyr leery of almost anything in badge collecting now with many fakes comming out.
I forgot to mention I saw a fake Cape Breton Highlanders badge today at the show. It was not for sale. It was brought in by a collector to show another person, I just happened to be there. Never thoght to get a picture of it.
