Default South Staffordshire Duty/Bed plate

Made by F. Narborough, Birmingham. The Solder's service number would indicate mid to late World War 2 issue.

Cool South Staffordshire Duty/Bed plate

Strangely enough I have one of these, I have never investigated as to the history of it, but why did the South Staffordshire Regt have these when other units probably never had them?

I think that they must have been ordered from the manufacturer at regimental or battalion level rather than as standard issue. I also guess that so many have survived because they couldn't be reissued and therefore the soldier was allowed to keep his own.

The interesting thing about them is that they are researchable.

Everything had a scrap value back then, the amount of brass would soon mount up and I'm sure they would have taken them if they hadn't been lost somewhere.

My plate has no details on it other than the South Staffordshire on the top.
