Hi AATTV

It isn't an artillery badge, it is an Umm al-Quwain police cap badge used prior to the founding of the United Arab Emirates.

Please see: https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...Qaiwain+police

I would be interested if it doesn't fit in your collecting area.

All the best

Graham

Dear Graham,

Many thanks for your reply, I would not have find the solution by myself.

For the moment, it will remain in a display box but I keep your interest in mind.

Best regards,

AATTV

I would be interested in knowing if that badge is still in use. As per my earlier collecting years, I was lead to believe this was an “Artillery” badge. Then found another! After seeing the maker’s mark on one of them, I checked to see why Firmin shared the maker’s mark. Quite an eyeful! Bin Hamoodah. Also, if Eddie Parks is still following this thread, can he give me any ideas on the collar badges shown below? Regards, David J.

For some reason, I could not add the collar badges, so here they are. D.J.

Hello David,

The white metal collars appear to be those of the artillery of the Arab Legion. Eddie did comment on a thread a couple of years ago in which bronzed examples of this badge were put up for identification that the wording was 'Royal Artillery'.

However, I note in a previous, older, thread on the same badge he interpreted the wording as 'Arab Army', so I'm not certain which is correct, probably the latter. Apparently these were worn by British and Arab officers during the 1940s to 1960s.

The centre badge appears to be an officer's Field Service Cap badge to the Regiment of Artillery, Pakistan.

Keith

Hi David

The Umm Al Quwain Police was founded in 1967 wearing the badges you show, becoming part of the Federal Police and adopting their insignia c.1973-74 ('The Military And Police Forces Of The Gulf States Vol. 1: Trucial States And United Arab Emirates' by Athol Yates and Cliff Lord, pp. 45-47).

All the best

Graham
