Hi Kevin,

In my opinion all three are fake.

If you are after an example of a genuine Hertfordshire Regiment cap badge, let me know as I have a tin full. I don't have any of the so called "wide antler" variants spare which your examples are trying to be, but they aren't the best looking example of the badge anyway.

All the best,

Andrew

I agree that the left and middle are bad, but the right looks like it might stand a chance to me.

CB,

Thanks for your reply and the small positive, it was more than I expected on any of the three "suspects".

Regards and keep safe.

Actually, the right hand one is the most obvious fake. Below is an analysis I did some time ago of this badge shown next to a fake Queen's crown badge.

However, on closer inspection the left hand badge could possibly be one manufactured by F.N. B'HAM (Frederick Narborough) or possibly F. E. WOODWARD B'HAM with an unmarked shank so could possibly be a good one.

The middle badge has the tell tale fault between the right hand antler and the "H" of sHire which I believe shows the possible worn WOODWARD die being used to restrike this badge.

Good clear close up shots, front, back and sides of the first badge would be a great help in determining authenticity. That being said the same goes for the other two as well.

That one is fine. It is similar, but not the same.

That is good news, I was worried for a minute there as I am not clear what the nature of the faults are on the fakes. Maybe I should get some reading glasses.

The fault is a dent for want of a better word that is on the inner ring. I will try and find a picture that I should have to illustrate better.
