MSO RCT
Not a very rare badge and there are a few I know in members albums (eg Fat Boy Ken's RCT album), but personally I've been looking for an example for quite a while.
I thought this was a particularly nice one though. Instead of having the EIIR cypher cut away and the MSO part inserted inside the laurels and banner, this one has the MSO neatly fitted over the cypher. This gives it a pleasing domed appearance. Anyway, I thought the way it's been put together (hopefully no one thinks butchered) was worth sharing. Cheers Mark Last edited by dubaiguy; 23-04-21 at 07:24 PM. |

Wohoooo !!
Yep ! A nice example of the later version of the RCT/MSO cap badge. They were told to attach the MSO disc to the outside of the badge, as removing the EiiR cypher was considered disrespecful. Well done Mark Last edited by Fatboy Ken; 24-04-21 at 02:15 PM. Reason: Correct spelling |

Chaps, do we know for sure by whom & where they were actually 'manufactured' ?
The REME example is particularly scarce. I know one went on Ebay a couple of years ago for an eye watering amount. My example of the MSO disc inserted from behind. Bess |

Hello Chris,
323 MSO Unit was a unit in the city of Bielefeld BFPO 39. Most MSO REME unit (Workshops) would make their own badges for wear by their own workers. Bielefeld was one such area, I was posted to 10 Corps Transport Regiment RCT. Ken

Chris is referring to to the standard response by many MSO personnel when challenged by a British Army guard or sentry, usually in German, although their nationalities were many and varied:
"MSO Bielefeld - Nicht verstehen" Some of the Polish personnel had fought as horsed cavalry against German tanks in 1939! Tim
