Would like some help with identification of this small [14mm] mounted two piece button please. The crown looks Victorian to me but as I understand it there was no 5th Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers until after WW2. There is no backmark. Any ideas?

Could this be to an unidentified Loyal Fencible Unit or similar? Lazio may be able to help when he checks the thread.

Something to do with the Legion of Frontiersmen perhaps, they were formed in 190"5"???

Thank you both for your suggestions.

I hadn't thought of Loyal Fencibles but I think they might be a bit early for the Victorian era.

The Legion of Frontiersmen did use a similar script LF in their early cap badge but the formation date of 1905 is a bit late for a Victorian crown, & as far as I can see they weren't given the right to use it.

Hi There,

I am fairly sure they are Officer's Mess Dress/Cap Buttons for the 5th Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers.

The Button I had was 14.3mm in diameter. There was no backmark except a ring of dots.

The LF's didnt have a 5th Battalion until 1908 when the Territorial Force was created. The QVC would in my opinion negate it from being of post 1908 era.

I've always been told they were Lancashire fusilier mess buttons I have number 3 in KC and QVC and number 5 the same as shown mounted. I have a pic of a number 5 which may not be mounted uncertain. i would like to see pics of 2,4,6 though

My first guess was Lancashire Fusiliers, but as Simon points out there was no 5th Battalion until 1908 [not WW2 as I said in the first post] and the Victorian crown puts it earlier.
