Pegasus patch, unusual embroidery

I would be interested in any information or opinions on the attached Pegasus patch, which I have just added to my collection.

The use of black thread to mark the detail is not something that I have come across before - at least not on a Pegasus patch - and would be grateful for any insights.

Unfortunately, it has suffered some moth damage, notably on one of the forelegs of Pegasus.
