Help in identifying which Regiment
Hello,
I am trying to find out what regiment my husbands grandfather was in. The only picture I have of him in uniform is in a family group, so I cropped the photo. Unfortunately he is not wearing his hat, but he does have lapel badges, so I have zoomed in on them and I have hopefully added the photo of them as well. The picture is not great, but shows the shape. His name is William Ross and he lived at Currie, just on the edges of Edinburgh. To me the badge looks as if has a Saltire, but I recently found out he was in the Essex regiment (he was pensioned out from that regiment). I do not know how or why he is in that regiment, but the badge doesn't match, and I have always assumed he would have been in a Scottish regiment. Can anyone help identify the badge? Thanks in advance for any help you can give. Alison |

Thanks GriffMJ. I will have a look.
I really expected it to be a Scottish regiment, but it looks as if soldiers were moved between regiments. I know he ended up in The Essex regiment, but I do not have his draft papers. So nothing would surprise me. |

Collar badges would be unusual for the ASC in WW1. More likely to be a Yeomanry or Cavalry regt.

Hello Alison,
The shoulder title has a faint resemblance to those worn by Officer Training Corps. Tinto |
