Blizzard,
have the standard type WW1 Worcestershire with a blanked out 'Firm' plaque. Do you know the reason for this? It is also the version shown in Wilkinson's book on British Badges ! Cheers ! Steve PS: Lovely badges you've shown here. Always great to see 'specialised' collections , like these. You get to see the really 'special' items. Have a few of the Valise badges in my own collection. Was always intrigued ,that only they ,were similar to the Guards Regts. in this .

At the time of the Cardwell reforms theb Regiment had a valise badge with WR in the centre they did not like this one bit fearing they would be related to the Warwickshire Regiment so the regimental armourer was ordered to blank out by hammering the "WR" this is possibly the badge taht you have the relationship with the Coldstream Guards goes to the officer who raised the regiment in 1694 Col Farrington who was in the Coldsteam Guards he also "pinched" the star badge . without appearing to boast my collection of the Worcestershire Regiment is very large some4 of the badges are too bigto upload so I have had to upload those which will go through . The badge you have if you can upload it then I can tell you for certain. BLIZZARD

Blizzard,
it's just the standard brass WW1 version cap badge.But with a blanked-out 'Firm' mottoe scroll.?? This really is a puzzle to me. (See pics below.) As said previously,this is also the version pictured in Wilkinson's book "Badges of the British Army 1820-1960" (1969) ,& in his later issues as well. Hi
I have never seen this badge with "FIRM" rubbed out before I can only put it down to someone being a bit heavy with the Brasso and Cardboard which is the way we used to clean brass in the army only snag with it the badge very quickly wears smooth so the letters ect will end looking nothing like it should do. BLIZZARD

thanks for the reply. The back of the badge shows that it was actually made like this. Possibly an error-stricking that got into the system for a while? Has all the signs & feel of an origional here. Have seen no others (apart from the 2 mentioned),yet & they have obviously been around for a good while ,now.
