Yes Griff
I was looking through the Bosley catalogue, and I only clicked on one's that interested me and found two fakes. Even though I have never bid on a Bosley auction, it doesn't give me much confidence if I ever did feel to do so. Simon. |

What do you think of this one?

Shape of the crown is getting very near right and if the crown had voids could cause problems. Not seen one like it before though. Regards, Paul.

Looking at mine it has all the hallmarks of a good original badge: nice rear detail, good deep striking, good patina/age, nice period slider with a partial crimp. Overall the detail is very good quality. In short if this was a badge to any other WW1 infantry battalion I think very few, if any, would doubt it. It even has a bit of a wrist on the hand of Ulster which lack of is seen on all the fakes. I’m aware these are a devil of a badge and there’s really only die which has universal acceptance as genuine (post #16), however, in light of this badge, Alan’s and the other attached image from a Bosley’s auction I wonder what members thoughts are on badges from this die? My personal opinion is they’re genuine. Cheers, Luke Last edited by Alan O; 02-01-19 at 06:41 PM. |

Here is another identical one sold by Bosley’s at their May 2007 Military Badge auction now showing the same die flaw at 2 o’clock between shamrock top and right shamrock leaves.

Just to put this one to bed. I’ve stumbled across a very old thread from 2008.
https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...l+Irish+Rifles The badge Jeanpit shows was collected by his grandfather in WW1 as a gift from a British soldier to a young boy, so has cast iron provenance. It is clearly from the same die as mine and Alan’s, evident from the flaw (most apparent in picture 3) that I mentioned above. Which means these are indeed without doubt genuine badges, and, badges from this die exhibiting the flaw were worn by the men of the 14th Battalion RIR on the Western Front during the Great War. Alan - hope you didn’t ditch your badge from post #28! Last edited by Luke H; 27-03-19 at 04:25 AM. |

I think it comes form a fake die. Lot of small tells but the most obvious is the palm and thumb shape.
