Not quite a contempory photo but if some one can find out which Mancs Bn this chap was in it might confirm that it was a wartime issue badge to a service battalion.

Gladstone Morton is not on the CWGC. can anyone access his medal card?

His record would suggets that he was in a Trg Bn before transferring to the ELancs. His brother was an Offr in the Mancs.

it would appear that this was a 1916 era badge .

His service record. I would suggest that the solid badge may have been issued to him in 1916 when he was with the Trg Reserve Bn. This would tie in with the shortage of insignia in 1915 which resulted in all sorts of short cuts. For me this bi metal solid badge is a waritme expedient and not a TF or Pals badge.

I have not been able to find his link to the Manchester badge. The soldier was in a Liverpool based Trg Reserve Bn in 1916 and was then transferred to the East Lancashires. The Trg Res Bn would have probably been wearing a GS Button as their badge.

His brother was KIA with the Manchesters so there may have been a link there.

There is no link to a Mancs Pals Bn so it would appear to be a wartime expedient for a Service Bn.

Here`s another cracked one, would be very nice if someone could find a photo of this type of badge being worn.
Regards,
Bill.

I'm not sure if it is safe to assume that because the badges and medals are framed together that they are all of the same period!! The East Lancs badge in the frame is a post 1931 example!

Another anomaly this time with the non-voided badges without the ridge?..
notice the round ding at the non voided part, appears to have been done during stamping. url]http://www.ebay.co.uk
not sure what this all means, just wanted to highlight it. curiouser and curiouser,
Regards,
Bill.

Bill

It's a shame that both are masquerading as Pals badges.

Neither are such in my opinion just a cheaper wartime- production badge.
