Hi guys , Steve the trader here , I am pretty sure this is a royal navy sweetheart badge but want to rule out merchant navy , Any help is greatly appreciated as usual .

Just to be clear I sell badges (mainly ebay) rather than collect

Excuse my ignorance on this badge, does the red background colour have any particular significance to a Branch of the Royal Navy or would it just be the whim of the Manufacturer in this instance?
