Default TAS branch - post 1950 rate badges

The post WWII primary role of the RCN was to be an Anti Submarine specialized navy.

Thus, when the new rate badges were introduced in 1949-50, all of the old Torpedo rate badges were abolished & the newly created branch was to be called the Torpedo Anti Submarine (TAS) branch.

The electrical responsibilities were removed from the torpedo branch & a separate Electrical branch was created, primarily drawn from former LTO’s & Wireman.

The new TAS Branch was a double barrelled branch & included all torpedomen who were designated Weapons Underwater (WU), and all Sound Detectors (formerly ASDIC ratings) who became Underwater Controllers (UC).

Unlike the RN TAS rate badges, the RCN rate badge bore no distinguishing specialty letters beneath the new logo.

Illustrated below is the RCN TAS rate badge.
