Thank you Paul.

From what you say, I would likely attribute it to the "funny" period when the badges changed just before the Cardwell reforms came into effect. I have seen one or two Forage Cap badges of this period, but have never seen any authorisations or descriptions.
Another area to explore.

I think that probably the only picture that I have that possibly shows this badge being worn is the one below. It is a photograph of a painting that I have no idea where it is from or what date it is. As I am unable to attribute the image and if the picture infringes any copyrights then please remove.

Thank you for sharing such a very interesting painting. It looks to be about 1850 which I have to say is much earlier than I think my badge is. It does fit in with the description in the 1846 Dress Regulations, although according to the DR it is supposed to be gold bullion embroidery.
