GMGR & WELSH GUARDS POUCH BADGE?
Hello,
I've a chance to buy both of these badges. Can I have opinions as to there authenticity please. The GMGR badge looks ok and has some wear from polishing. The Welsh Guards badge looks ok, but I'm at a loss to know were it was worn. I have a picture of the Welsh Guards in Egypt in 1929 and hackles are worn on the tropical helmets. Perhaps this was just the ceremonial order? Thanks |

Both are fakes. The MG Guards was only made with a slider as was the norm in 1916. Alan |

A brief glance at their reverse suggests they of recent manufacture.

Dave when you give your answer to the person selling them, just remind them that they are FAKES. They'll probably already know IMHO. How much were they for sale for if you don't mind me asking.

Hi Andy,
He is a ex Welsh Guardsman, as am I. I also bought a Valise Badge from him for £30. Picture attached. I am sure that this is genuine. I have the other two badges on approval - basically I send them back if I don't want them. If they were genuine I would have offered £20 each, but you guys obviously know your stuff - and they are fakes. To be fair to him , he does not know about the other two badges, as I told him that there area lot of fakes about. He bought the valise badge about 40 years ago, and the other two quite some time ago and had them mounted in a frame. Can I have the members opinion as to the valise badge please. Thanks |

Those WG badges should have 2 little tangs below the lugs for holding the backing cloth in place. There are a lot of threads on the forum regarding these badges.

I have two "identical" WG valise plates, there are many of them around, I paid £20 each.
WG plates get offered at up to £125, from what I've seen. As I say, I have two of them although I've never been sure that they're genuine. |

I certainly would not expect to see any lugs on an original.

Hi Dave Martin I'm another ex Welsh Guardsman (67 - 80). I'm no exxpert compared to these guys but I agree for what itis worth. I paid seventy quid for my GMGR badge and its on a slider. The WG one looks like a pagri badge last worn in Gibralter in 1939. I have one of those as well and it cost a similar price. It is also on a slider with two small clips on the back.

I would be delighted to buy in originals at twenty quid each, never mind, not going to happen!

Notwithstanding the error in the title of this thread, as I said, not going to happen!

Just out of interest, I would be very interested to see the picture you mention, if it is an actual photograph, or, is it merely an illustration?
