Berkshire regiment pre 1885 officers helmet plate
Good Morning all
I recently bought this item at Auction and it was delivered today but I now have a few concerns on its authenticity. Are there any members of this forum that can give me any advice or clarification? I have attached a couple of photos I've taken and can add more if needed. Thankyou in advance for your help |

Looks ok from the front, possibly lost all its gilt and polished back to brass. Photos of the rear would tell us for sure though. Regards

Thankyou for letting me be part of your group and this forum comes highly recommended by other collectors. I have attached addition images if the rear of the plate hopefully this helps I took the plate apart and photographed the separate components if this also helps . I will also be taking it along to the Berkshire regiment museum next week to compare to ones in their collection

It looks to be a good badge. The gilt may still be present to some degree as it is often difficult to get the true shade to photograph accurately.

Yes I bought it from that Auction. Did you see it up for sale? I did send a reply earlier with better pictures as I took it apart and photographed the components individually but it doesnt seem to have been accepted yet

You need to show pictures the right way up.

It does look good, overall, the strap type is often found on the officers plate with a number, and it is quite common to find the number removed, a centre and title scroll added, at the time, so that’s a good sign.

Thankyou all for your comments so far. Yes this is the one from the Stroud auction. I have taken it apart to photograph the individual components if this helps with clarification. I have also weighed it and it weighs 79grams
